WBO #1 ranked super bantamweight Mexican American Jesse Magdaleno (22-0, 16 KOs) of Las Vegas, Nevada is back in action this Saturday. Magdaleno will take on Edward Mansito (13-3, 7 KOs) of the Philippines. The 10 round main event will take place at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix, Arizona. The show will be promoted by Top Rank and aired on UniMas. It’s just a 4 hours or so drive from Magdaleno’s native Las Vegas to the fight location of Phoenix. There could be some Magdaleno supporters who make the trip. Also it will likely be a lot of local Mexican American fans on hand as well who will support Magdaleno.

Magdaleno turned professional in 2010 after a very successful amateur career where he won more than a reported 100 fights. His career has been kind of in the shadows of his older brother Diego. Things have changed a bit with Jesse now number one in the world and Diego losing twice in his bid to become a world champion. Jesse’s breakout fight came against former world ranked contender Raul Hirales. Magdaleno passed the test and advanced forward in his career which now sees him in the top spot in the WBO rankings.

There is a lot at stake for Magdaleno this Saturday as he looks to get 2016 off to the right start. Mansito knows that this is the chance of a lifetime for him. He is young at 23 but has had the experience of fighting a former world champion in Tomas Rojas. He would lose to Rojas but takes that experience into his fight with Magdaleno and is not likely to be intimidated. The Mexican Filipino boxing rivalry has been one of the most popular over the last decade with Manny Pacquaio’s fights with a number of top level Mexican fighters. This fight is not on those levels but still means a lot for both of these fighters. This fight is not on those levels but still means a lot for both of these fighters. I fully expect for both of these fighters to fight like this is there most important fight to date.
