Herring-Flores

Last week we decided to go with the matchup between former Puerto Rican Olympian Alex De Jesus (21-2,13 KOs) of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Florida based Haitian Joseph Elegele (15-2,11 KOs). The welterweight bout was scheduled for 8 rounds and aired on Bounce TV. The site of the event was the Seminole Casino, in Immokalee, Florida. De Jesus entered the bout as the favorite but had been very inactive due mostly to a domestic violence charge that had him incarcerated for nearly 4 years. Elegele himself a few years ago was an unbeaten highly touted prospect. A pair of losses on his record set him back. This was an opportunity for him to get his once promising career back on track. In the end it was Elegele who emerged victorious by dominating and stopping De Jesus in round 6. We as well were victorious as we picked Elegele to upset De Jesus.

Our pick of the week comes from the matchup between former USA Olympian Jamel Herring (14-0, 8 KOs) and hard punching Colombian Luis Eduardo Flores (21-2, 17KOs). The two will square off Tuesday February 9th. The site venue will be the Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The show’s promoter will be Marshall Kauffman (King’s Promotions) while FOX Sports 1 will air the event.

It has been a gradual progression for Herring since he turned professional in 2012. Time has really flown by as they say as the 2016 Olympics are set to start this year. Herring is 4 years removed from his Olympic appearance and seems ready to step up this year. This begins with Flores who is indeed a step up for Herring. It was about 2 years ago that Flores went into Mexico to take on local unbeaten and world ranked Miguel Berchelt. Flores pulled off the upset stopping Berchelt in the very first round. We expect Flores to come out with that same enthusiasm vs Herring with this being his USA debut. However we expect the southpaw Herring to rise to the occasion and defeat Flores to remain unbeaten and advance forward in his career.
