Ishe-Martirosyan

Last week we decided to go with the rematch between WBA Bantamweight world champion Jamie McDonnell (27-2-1, 12KOs) of the United Kingdom and former world champion Tomokoi Kameda (31-3, 12KOs) of Japan. The would again square off in Texas like in their first encounter. In that fight which was closely contested, McDonell won by the slimmest of margins on all three judges scorecards at 114-113. This even after McDonnell suffered an early knockdown.

We selected Kameda to reverse things and be victorious the second time around. McDonnell was up for the challenge once again and duplicated his first feat by decisioning Kameda once again. This time the scores were much wider and it was McDonnell who scored the only knockdown of the fight. Some felt the fight could have went either way but at the end of the day it was a loss for Kameda and one for us since we picked him to win.

This week we have decided to choose the fight between former world title challenger Vanes Martirosyan (35-2-1, 21KOs) and former world champion Ishe Smith (27-7, 12 KOs). The bout will take place this Saturday. It will be on the televised pay per view undercard of unbeaten pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs challenger Andre Berto. It is a scheduled for 10 round junior middleweight contest. MGM Grand, in Las Vegas, Nevada will host the event.

Martirosyan enters the bout having lost 2 of his last 4. It should be noted that those losses were to Jermell Charlo and Demetrius Andrade. They had a combined record of 44-0 at the time they faced Martirosyan. Smith himself has lost 2 of his last 4 with the losses being to Carlos Molina and Erislandy Lara. Martirosyan is a decisive favorite to beat Smith. Martirosyan  has the youth advantage of about 8 years. Smith on the other hand is very awkward. He will also be fighting at home in his native las Vegas where he was born and raised. This could be his last chance to make a run at a world title. We’re going to go with Smith in the upset.
