GARCIA-GUERRERO

Our pick last week came between unbeaten world ranked contenders Vyacheslav Glazkov (21-1-1, 13 KOs) of the Ukraine and Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) of the United States. The two squared off for the vacant IBF heavyweight title with Showtime airing the event.. The title was vacated by Tyson Fury.  He could not defend the title due to a contracted immediate rematch with Wladimir Klitschko who he defeated this past November.

Glazkov entered the fight as a slight favorite to defeat Martin. He had fought much better opposition than that had Martin. He also had a much more extensive amateur background to that of Martin. The biggest thing in Martin’s favor overall appeared to be his natural size advantage.   Martin came out using his jab effectively. Glazkov pressed and was able to keep the distance at close quarters. Then the unthinkable happened in round 3. In the midst of an exchange where neither fighter landed Glazkov  badly twisted his knee. The fight was stopped moments later and Martin was an official TKO winner and new IBF heavyweight champion. We started a new win streak as Martin was our pick of the week.

This week we have decided to go with the world title fight between former world champions Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero. The two will square off this Saturday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California for the vacant WBC welterweight world title. Garcia is a heavy favorite to defeat Guerrero. Garcia is unbeaten and Guerrero is coming off of a very hard earned decision win over Aaron Martinez whom he was heavily favored to beat.  These two factors have a lot to do with the large disparity in the current sportsbooks odds. It should be noted that Guerrero fought competitively vs. both Keith Thurman and with Martinez. He also fought two very hard fights in about a 3 month span. This no doubt could have affected his performance in the second fight. Garcia has remained unbeaten but has looked inconsistent over the last few years. Guerrero coming off of a much needed and deserved 6 months rest could actually be fighting Garcia at the right time. We are picking Guerrero for the upset win.
